I’ve finished routing and have installed the stick and buttons. Printed out some Guilty Gear art I had on my hard drive to use as art, but I’ll probably replace it in the future.

My buttons and joystick came in this morning so I started drilling as soon as I got back from class.

I went with dowels and wood glue for all construction. Panel board is not secured yet — going to do that after drilling and assembling the main panel with the buttons and joystick.

I cut the wood today and made sure everything fits alright. I think I’m doing okay so far — mine is a bit smaller than the example I’m going off. Hope to start assembling the box this weekend. I will be using wood glue and dowels for the main body construction (later I’ll use screws to hold the joystick and plexiglass in place). We’ll see how much I can get done considering Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming out tonight

Street Fighter IV has been an interesting game to keep up with. It’s first showing wasn’t all that impressive to me, but I have to admit it’s growing on me. I think they’ve accomplished the visual style they set out to and the gameplay’s shaping up nicely. The arcade version has gone gold while the home versions (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) will come later.

Since my last post, they’ve unvealed 4 new characters and the boss. I’m still not digging any of the new characters, but I’ll give you the rundown anyway.

With the idea of building my own arcade stick fresh on my mind, I’ve not wasted any time getting started. I’ve decided on the panel layout and have started gathering the basic materials.

(Placeholder art – not final)
The layout is not necessarily one of the more popular 6 button layouts you see today, though it was used a little more in the past. The advantage to building your own stick is that you can build it specifically to your own preferences and specifications ![]()

I’ve decided that I want to build my own arcade stick over the summer. I intend to update my progress on the blog and at the end of the build I would like to publish a tutorial. I’m currently in the planning stage – deciding on materials to use, design, and what stick/buttons to use. I have a Street Fighter Anniversary pad to hack and use as the PCB, but I may use a PSX Dualshock if I can get my hands on the correct revision. My main resource for this project will be http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick.html
So be sure to check for updates
