The new EGM issue is out to subscribers and includes 10 pages of Street Fighter IV coverage. They go in depth into how the new Revenge Gauge will work, as well as discuss what other changes will come to the series.
Although Capcom has been releasing countless revisions and remakes of Street Fighter II since 1992, it looks like they are still not ready to really move forward. SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono’s goal is to make “the second coming of Street Fighter II.” As far as the story goes, SFIV takes place between SFII and SFIII. So maybe it would be more accurate to name SFIV “Street Fighter 2.5″ instead…
When you consider Street Fighter II has already had an abundance of “second comings,” the idea of getting yet another Street Fighter II remake is… dissapointing. To illustrate just how excessive another SFII remake is, take a look at this screenshot.

This is a screenshot from Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. This is a SFII remake for HD consoles. It features totally redone sprites and backgrounds as well as updated and rebalanced gameplay modes. When someone says “second coming of Street Fighter II,” I’d have something like HD Remix in my mind. HD Remix is not even out yet — it is still in development. So yeah, I wasn’t kidding when I said it was excessive. They are making a 2D rebalancing/update to SFII and a 3D rebalancing/update to SFII… at the same time… and on the same consoles.
Ono obviously won’t be calling it a SFII “remake” and to be fair, there are some additions that take SFIV a step away from the countless SFII games.
